Family Gathering -Mallorca
Mallorca
4 to 29 of November
Mallorca is an island with a reputation. With many visitors each summer and strains on locals and local resources making the perennial news cycle it’s tempting to think that the era of a meaningful trip here has passed. But our experience on the largest of the Balearic islands has been quite different. With the right approach this majestic island is ready to open its heart. Our last visit, a full month spent with six other families during our QC Caravan in early 2024, left us so enamored with this place we decided to apply for Spanish residency!
For those who want to experience Mallorca, but who want to do it the right way, there is a secret recipe for making it a beautiful, memorable and positive visit for all:
Go longer -we will spend a full month together, moving at the pace of life.
Go on the shoulder season -November is the perfect time of year in Mallorca, the summer heat has cooled, the sea is still warm and the island breathes slowly and deeply. The island is coming back to itself after a busy summer, and people are open and hospitable.
Work with locals -Our partners in Mallorca are passionate and gifted, and working on challenging projects. They know what their island needs, and we are happy and grateful learners.
Follow the recipe and you find that Mallorca opens up, welcoming you in to its quiet corners. Life here is filled with charm, things are well-made and well-cared for, food is thoughtfully grown and broadly adored, daily medicine is a glass of orange juice and a coffee on a sunny terrace. There are mountains and beautiful canyons to explore, rocky inlets for swims and cliff jumps and all around that deep, candy blue of the Mediterranean.
WHERE: We will place ourselves in the centre of the island, near the town of Alaro, giving easy access to our partners in the Tramuntana mountains and the flatter farmlands of the sunny middle.
THE PROGRAM: This month will we revisit old friends and partners we worked with during our stay on the QC Caravan earlier this year. These are passionate and gifted farmers and producers, restaurateurs and craftspeople who together are helping define Mallorca as a centre of thoughtful and integrated agronomy. With a year-round growing season and a food culture that combines deep history with fresh ideas from the more recently arrived, Mallorca is simply one of the most delicious places to spend some time. We’ll take advantage of the incredible landscape for hikes in the mountains and swims in the sea, and enjoy long, slow meals together as a group.
The core of this trip is the learning program, running Monday through Thursday, roughly 10am to 3pm. Fridays are family exploration days, where we choose a hike, a swim or another visit to experience together as families. Group meals, dance parties, play dates and sleepovers all pop up organically.
