FAQ’s

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

We believe travel is richer and more transformative when we do it as a family, or, even better, alongside other families. We design trips that engage and consider the needs of the kids while not over-playing to them. The reasons we travel, mystery, romance, revelation, growth, have not changed just because we’ve had children. In the end, they will value what we value, and exploring an exotic market hand in hand with other kids is infinitely more exciting and memorable than standing in line at Disneyland.

HOW MANY FAMILIES/CHILDREN DO YOU EXPECT TO ATTEND?

Groups are small enough to be manageable, typically between 18 and 26 people total. For our QC Caravan we have space for 12 kids in the program, with four of those spots taken by our children plus the son of our educator.

WHAT MEALS ARE PROVIDED?

Each event has a different configuration. Please check your trip page for specifics on what is included.

LODING OPTIONS IN THE AREA?

For the QC Caravan and our longer Family Gatherings, booking your stay is your responsibility. We are happy to provide guidance, to share our list of preferred properties and to give feedback on any options you’re considering. Airbnb is generally the best place to start your search. Most owners are willing to offer a special rate for a rental of a month or more. We are highly opinionated about housing, and this comes in very handy.

TRANSPORT?

Except where noted, booking transport is your responsibility. We are happy to advise on the best and most economical options in each area.

WHAT ARE YOUR DEPOSIT AND CANCELLATION POLICIES?

A 50%, non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your place at a Family Gathering or the QC Caravan.

For the QC Caravan, your spot for each month is not reserved until you have made this deposit. When attending multiple months each month’s remainder is due 60 days before the beginning of that session.

The remaining balance is required 60 days before the trip begins.

For trips booked within 0-60 days of the trip departure date the entire payment is required to book and is non-refundable.

If you choose to cancel within 60 days of the trip we will not be able to refund your deposit or the rest of your payment.

For our full Terms and Conditions please see CLICK HERE.

WHAT IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED?

In the event that circumstances outside of our control, including changing COVID-19-related regulations or some other force majeure event, impact our ability to host this event as intended our first choice will be to alter, postpone or reschedule. If we have to cancel the event entirely we will refund 75% of all payments made by our guests, minus unrecoverable costs, within 30 days of the cancellation announcement. There are a lot of costs associated with the planning of these events that are not recoupable in the event of a cancellation, including deposits paid to properties and vendors as well as our administrative and travel costs. We are a small operation and we appreciate your trust, understanding and patience. For our full terms and conditions please CLICK HERE.

FOR QC CARAVAN, WHAT IF THERE ARE SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES TO THE PROGRAM?

When planning five consecutive months of travel we can expect some things to change. We reserve the right to change the program where required and at our discretion, but understand that some imaginable changes could represent significant alterations and deserve extra consideration. While it’s hard to plan for every eventuality, any potential substantive alteration will be approached with care and consideration for the needs of QC and of our guests. Any circumstance or emergency that would require a major change in timeline, planned geography or guides or hosts as described on the trip page would be accompanied by discussion with all families attending, with QC reserving the right to make the choices it deems most appropriate at its sole discretion.

LEARNING GUIDE ~The quality of our guides is an important feature of our program. In the event that one or more of our guides is not able to participate in the trip as described, we will consider options that include: a) postponing or rescheduling the trip, or b) substituting a guide. In the event that neither of these options are possible or desirable we will cancel the trip and our cancellation policies, as summarized above and described fully HERE, will apply.

OUR PRESENCE AS HOSTS ~If some emergency or other eventuality requires a change in our family’s attendance at the QC Caravan our first choice will be to reschedule all affected months. If a reschedule proves impossible we will cancel the trip and our cancellation policies, as summarized above and described fully HERE, will apply.

DO I NEED TO BE VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19 TO ATTEND?

No. We’re glad to say the world of travel has moved past this chapter. All are welcome to attend, regardless of vaccination status.

WHAT IF I GET SICK DURING THE TRIP?

If you become ill or need to quarantine during the trip we will work with you to get the resources you need to safely comply with local regulations as well as help you access any health services you may require. The costs for these services, though, will be your responsibility. We will not be able to offer any refunds in this case.

DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?

We require all our guests obtain, at their cost, travel insurance before they depart. This provides security for you and your family and can help recover costs related to medical care, lost/damaged luggage, transit and lodging changes and booked travel experiences, like the QC Caravan and QC Family Gatherings, in case of an emergency. We recommend Travelex or World Nomads who both have affordable and comprehensive policies with painless signup processes.
